Food is one of my favorite things, and as a result, I eat kind of a lot of mindblowing food. I had an incredibly fantastic meal at Journeyman this year, of which the standout dish was butternut squash agnolotti with wild mushrooms. I also had an excellent meal at Arrows, which had several exquisitely simple preparations of vegetables.
I also cooked several excellent meals, including some really good mushroom turnovers for Christmas eve, and excellent dish with tofu, soba noodles, and almond butter around Halloween.
But really, the things that feed me all the time are simple: quinoa with vegetables and pesto, chili, great coffee, buttermilk biscuits. As much as I love great food, I also love sharing it, and I can’t think of a meal I’ve had recently that wasn’t as much about the people I was sharing it with as it was about the food itself, even when that food was show-stopping.
How about you? What are your simple, reliable pleasures in food?
