Ordinary joys

Our most profound joy is often experienced during ordinary moments. What was one of your most joyful ordinary moments this year?

One of the first things I remember learning about happiness is that one of the secrets to it is being able to derive joy from small, ordinary things, so I love this prompt extra.

Here are a few of mine; I’d love to hear yours in comments:

  • driving down the road I live on, which is seriously fairy-tale beautiful
  • the first sip of coffee in the morning after I’ve gotten the cream and sugar just right
  • the smell of burning white sage during my practice
  • being able, after a long saga centering around a broken foot, to walk for exercise or pleasure
  • trying to lick an ice cream cone faster than it melts on a hot day
  • the smell of sunscreen and the sticky sand of the beach
  • catching a friend’s eye and dissolving into giggles
